Where there is a way, there is a moron

Place : This is a common sight every where (Photo captured at SRP tools signal)

Chennai roads are mostly flooded all through the year. No ! Not the water kind of flood. Vehicles take almost every inch of the road during peak hours leaving very little space for people on foot. Globally, there is a solution to overcome this situation and we call it the sidewalk, which is a paved path on the side of the road. Here in Chennai we also call it the platform.

And here’s how we (bikers and autowallahs) sometimes use it based on one of the following reasons :

  • The signal is red. And I may have to wait for one more signal time. Whew ! I might as well take the sidewalk
  • There is so much traffic and I cannot wade through the barrage of vehicles. I might as well take the sidewalk
  • The traffic police is no where to be seen and I don’t want to go all the way and take a U turn. Might as well take the sidewalk
  • Why the &*($ should I care. Might as well take the sidewalk
While using the sidewalk along the flow of traffic by itself  is unacceptable, these fools are coming in the opposite direction. Their best argument : No one is anyway in the path. Don’t be hoodwinked by the lack of pedestrians in the picture. For all you know, they are walking elsewhere because of these morons.
